Meet our Experienced Team of Doctors
Dr. William R. Waldron
Dr. Waldron graduated from The University of Rochester in 1970. He worked in ophthalmology clinics, did research in eye diseases, and completed a Master's degree before becoming an optometrist. He graduated from the Ohio State University College of Optometry and began practicing in Virginia in 1990. Dr. Waldron is fully licensed and certified to practice optometry at the highest level allowed by Virginia law, including the use of therapeutic pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Waldron is a member of the American Optometric Association, Virginia Optometric Association, Virginia Academy of Optometry and the Tidewater Optometric Society.
Dr. David M. Buck
Dr. David M. Buck, O.D. established Peninsula Eye Care in 2017 on the foundation of Dr. William R. Waldron's practice. His goal is to provide full scope optometry services to the Peninsula and surrounding areas with proficiency and genuine care for his patients.
A Newport News local, Dr. Buck attended Virginia Tech, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Biology. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University, a program nationally recognized for excellence in Optometric education.
In addition to primary eye care, Dr. Buck has focused his expertise in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, contact lens and specialty contact lens evaluation and management, and pre/post-operative ocular care.
Dr. Buck is a member of the Tidewater, Virginia, and American Optometric Associations. He enjoys spending time with his wife and raising his two beautiful children.
Dr. Kara Palmer
Dr. Palmer graduated from Miami University of Ohio, co-majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience. She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Palmer has gained extensive training in the treatment and management of ocular diseases including but not limited to glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetes, hypertension, etc. She specializes in contact lenses and is comfortable with soft, gas permeable, hybrid, and scleral lens designs and fitting. Along with her passion for primary care, Dr. Palmer places an emphasis on ocular surface disease and providing comprehensive and problem-focused examinations.
Dr. Palmer enjoys traveling with her husband along with being outdoors and going to sporting events in her free time. She is passionate about cooking, health, and fitness and is always looking for ways to stay active and involved in the community around her.
Dr. Elyse Bare
Dr. Bare is a native of Chesterfield, VA. She became interested in Optometry after working as a technician at her local optometrist’s office during the summers. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s in Biology and then obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, PA. Her interests include primary eye care, contact lens fittings, glaucoma management, corneal disease management, and dry eye management. She is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
In her spare time, Dr. Bare enjoys getting outside, watersports on the James River, and going to the mountains for ATV trails and snowsports in the Fall and Winter. She resides in the Smithfield area with her husband, golden retriever, long-haired dachshund, and cat.
